Plenty of Lombard homes still run on their original sewer lines. Those lines work — they just need the occasional fight picked with roots and buildup, and rodding is the fight.

“Is rodding just a temporary fix?”

Fair question. Rodding removes the blockage; it doesn’t change the pipe. If your pipe is in good shape, that’s permanent enough — the clog was the problem. If the pipe itself invites trouble, rodding buys time while you decide on more. The camera look tells us which story yours is, and we’ll tell you plainly.
