24/7 Emergency

Septic Repair & Replacement

Before anyone says “new field,” we find out what actually failed.

Licensed Chicagoland plumbers who check the tank, the baffles, and the field separately — and price the fix for the part that failed, not the whole system. If a pump-out and a repair will do it, we’ll tell you that instead.

Backups, odors & soggy spots over the field

A septic rarely dies all at once.
Usually one part quits first.

Tank, baffles, distribution box, field — each fails its own way, and only one of them costs five figures. Knowing which one you have is worth a diagnosis.

Second opinions welcome

“There’s a wet, smelly patch over the drain field.”

Effluent surfacing means the field isn’t absorbing — but why matters. A blocked line, a failed distribution box, and a saturated field are three different repairs at three very different prices. We find out which one before anyone quotes a replacement.

Before we start

“The tank backs up even though we just pumped it.”

If pumping only buys you weeks, the water isn’t leaving the tank — and that points downstream: a blocked outlet baffle, a clogged line to the field, or a field that’s quit. Each one is checkable. The answer decides whether this is a small repair or a real project.

“One company already told us we need a whole new system.”

Maybe you do — fields don’t last forever. But “total replacement” is also the easiest thing to quote without diagnosing. We check the tank, baffles, and field separately and show you what we find. If the field is truly done, you’ll see why. If it isn’t, you just saved the cost of one.

How it works

Replacement is the last option
on our list, not the first.

We price the smallest fix that solves it. If that’s a baffle, you’ll never hear a pitch about a field.

  1. An expert picks up.

Tell us the symptoms, the system's age, and when it was last pumped. That history narrows the diagnosis before we're in the driveway.

  2. We check each part of the system separately.

Tank levels, baffle condition, distribution box, and probes at the field. The failed part gets named — and shown to you — before anything gets priced.

  3. You get the options in writing.

From a baffle repair to a full field, each with a price and what it buys you. If the smallest fix solves it, that's the one at the top of the list.

  4. Permits, install, and county sign-off.

Replacements run through the health department — we handle the permits and inspections, restore the grade, and leave you with the paperwork.

Not sure how bad yours is?

Tell us what it’s doing and when it was last pumped. We’ll tell you what it sounds like — and what we’d check first.

Whether it’s sewage in the yard on a Sunday or a slow field you’ve nursed for years, you get the same straight answer and the same upfront price.

DIAGNOSIS

Tank, baffles, and field — checked separately

Levels, flow, and where the water stops. The failed component gets named before anything gets priced, and you see the evidence.

STRAIGHT TALK

Sometimes a pump and a baffle is the fix

Plenty of “failed systems” are one broken part plus a neglected pumping schedule. When that’s yours, we say so — we’d rather lose a replacement job than sell one that wasn’t needed.

Straight answers

The questions
you might be asking

What does septic repair or replacement cost?

Depends entirely on which part failed — which is why the diagnosis comes first. The honest ranges:

Diagnosis & full-system inspection

$XXX – $XXX

Baffle or distribution box repair

$XXX – $XXX

Tank replacement

$XXX – $XXX

Drain field replacement

$XXX – $XXX

The pattern tells on it. Backups that pumping fixes for months point at the tank side; backups that return within weeks of pumping point past the tank. Wet or lush stripes over the field, odors outside, and probes that come up saturated point at the field itself. We check in that order, because the tank-side answers cost a fraction of the field ones.

Sometimes — it depends on why it failed. A field drowned by a broken distribution box or a clogged line can recover once flow is corrected and the field gets a rest. A field saturated after decades of service is at the end of its biology, and no additive in a jug changes that. We’ll tell you which yours is, and we don’t sell miracle treatments.

Tanks run decades; fields are the mortal part — commonly 20 to 30 years depending on soil, sizing, and how the house treats them. Pumping every 3 to 5 years is what gets a field to the far end of that range, because it keeps solids out of soil that can’t pass them. If your system is past 25 and struggling, age is a fair suspect — but we still check the cheap parts first.

Yes — septic replacement in Chicagoland counties runs through the health department: permits, soil evaluation where a new field is involved, and inspection before backfill. We handle that paperwork as part of the job. It also protects you at resale, when the county file is the first thing a buyer’s attorney pulls.

Mostly, yes. Diagnosis and most repairs don’t require shutting the house down — we’ll tell you if there’s a window to go easy on laundry. A field replacement is the exception: there’s a stretch where the system can’t take flow, and we schedule that with you rather than springing it on you mid-job.

Water volume and things that shouldn’t be in the tank. Marathon laundry days, a fixture that runs constantly, water softener backwash plumbed into the tank, grease, wipes, and a garbage disposal used like a trash can all shorten a field’s life. None require you to change how you live much — just knowing which habits are expensive. We’ll leave you the short list with the report.

Still not sure what’s failing?

Describe the symptoms and the pump history. We’ll tell you what it sounds like and what checking it involves — before anyone gets in a truck.
