Failed lines, big quotes & hard decisions

Nobody plans to replace a sewer.
Here's how to do it right anyway.

It starts with a backup or an inspection report, and suddenly you’re comparing five-figure quotes. The footage, the locate, and the options in writing are what turn panic into a decision.

Bring us the other quotes

“I got three quotes and they don’t even agree on the problem.”

That’s common, unfortunately — and fixable. We camera the line with you watching and mark the damage on the ground above it. Once the failure has a location and a length, quotes become comparable. Ours goes in writing next to theirs; you decide with the footage in hand.

Before we start

“How do I know if it’s a spot repair or the whole line?”

The camera decides, not the salesman. One bad joint in an otherwise sound line is a spot repair. Damage spread across the run — cracks every few feet, chronic roots, failing grade — is when replacement starts winning the math. We show you the footage either way.

“The village says the line is my responsibility. All of it.”

In most Chicagoland towns, that’s true — homeowners typically own the lateral from the house to the main, even under the parkway. It’s a shock the first time you hear it. The permits, bonding, and street-side work that come with it are routine for us, and we’ll walk you through how it works in your town.

How it works

We don't quote a sewer
we haven't put on a screen.

Every number we give you traces back to footage you watched and a mark on the ground you can stand on.

  1. An expert picks up.

Read us the camera report or the quotes you've collected, or just describe the backups. We'll tell you what's consistent, what's odd, and what we'd verify first.

  2. We camera and locate — with you watching.

The whole line, on screen, with every defect given a distance and a surface mark. This is the map the decision gets made on.

  3. Every real option, priced in writing.

Spot repair, sectional lining, trenchless replacement, open trench — whichever apply to your line, side by side with what each buys you. The number doesn't move once you've signed it.

  4. The work is inspected, then proven.

Municipal inspection where required, the ground closed properly, and a final camera pass you can watch. The line runs clean or we're not done.

STRAIGHT TALK

“Watch and wait” is a real option

A line with minor defects and no symptoms can often be monitored on a schedule instead of replaced on fear. When that’s yours, we’ll say so and put the interval in writing.

Straight answers

The questions
you might be asking

What does sewer line repair or replacement cost?

Depends on the length, the depth, and what’s above the line — which is why we locate before quoting. The honest ranges:

Camera inspection & locate (free with service)

$XXX – $XXX

Spot repair, single section

$XXX – $XXX

Trenchless lining or bursting, per foot

$XXX – $XXX

Open excavation & replacement, per foot

$XXX – $XXX

Failed means the line can no longer reliably do its job: repeated backups despite clearing, footage showing collapse, major offsets, or standing water across long runs. One crack on a camera report is not failure — plenty of imperfect lines run for decades. This is exactly where second opinions earn their keep, and why we hand you the footage instead of adjectives.

By what the footage shows and what sits above the line. Isolated damage in sound pipe: spot repair. Widespread cracks or root entry in a line that still holds its shape: lining, which renews the whole run without a trench. Collapsed sections, bad grade, or pipe past saving: replacement — trenchless where conditions allow, open trench where they don’t. Each gets a price; you see why.

In most Chicagoland municipalities, you own the lateral from the house to the connection at the main — including the stretch under the parkway and sometimes the street. The village owns the main itself. Quick sanity check before spending money: if neighbors have trouble at the same time, call public works first. If it’s only your house, it’s almost certainly your lateral.

It survives, and the quote tells you exactly how. Trenchless methods need an access pit or two instead of an open trench — landscaping mostly wins. Open excavation is honest about its footprint: we mark the path, price the concrete and restoration up front, and put back what can be put back. What we don’t do is discover your driveway halfway through the job.

Spot repairs typically run a day; lining and trenchless replacements one to two; full excavation two to four depending on depth and length. There’s a window — usually hours, not days — when nothing can go down the drains, and we schedule it with you. Almost everyone stays home through it. You’ll have the timeline in writing before we start.

The pipe itself, rarely — wear, settling, and root damage are standard exclusions. Two exceptions worth checking: service line riders, which some carriers sell cheap and cover exactly this, and backup riders covering interior damage when a failure floods the house. We’re plumbers, not adjusters — call your carrier, and we’ll supply the footage and written diagnosis they’ll want.

Still weighing the options?

Read us the camera report or the quotes you have. We’ll tell you what we’d ask before signing anything — before anyone gets in a truck.
